The Duuchess of Oldenburg is an interesting Russian apple that was imported from England in 1835. It ripens  early and is a traditional favorite for baking. Lone Duchess trees can sometimes be found by old farmhouses attesting to their early popularity. A solid choice for baking and cooking with in general. Firm to tender flesh - mildly tart flavor.
